Red House: Before

The original semi-detached house had already been extended right up to the woodland border and had used up all its 'planning envelope' so the only further extension was to go upward.

The roof pantiles seemed in good condition, and it was hoped that they would not need replacing. However, once the scaffolding was erected the need to re-roof with breathable under-felt became apparent. Most of the tiles were reused. The roof also had to be cross-ventilated above the insulation to meet Building Regulations.
