The clients were an artist and a music studio producer with a growing family. They needed more space and originally wanted to convert the loft. The second-hand London-stock brick façade with red brick detailing matches the local Victorian street-scape as do the stone keystones to the reinforced, solid brick arches.

However, a crumbling wall, a beautiful garden and good aspect led to quite a different solution to their needs.   The hand-made brick coping on the corbelled brickwork and the dentil course further complement these details.

In fact the entire back of the house was remodelled and extended, opening up space inside and resulting in a new rear façade that is modern and yet mirrors the Victorian character of the area.  The Douglas fir balustrade is a striking modern touch that further marries the garden to the house.
