The clients, a teacher and social worker, are passionate Victorians with two small children who had been squashed into one small bedroom. Clearly they needed more rooms as they grew up - but the options for moving away were not attractive.   The resultant scheme added 8 new rooms to their house: 2 small bedrooms, a garage below (two off street parking spaces required by the planners for a 4 bedroom house), upstairs shower room, study, dining room with Gothic doorway to garden, downstairs WC and reconstructed  kitchen.

The aim of the project was to create an extension that would not only make the house more spacious as a whole but would also maintain the Victorian character of the house.   The two-storey rear extension matches and mirrors the existing, with brick arches, purpose-made sash and slate roofs.
