The clients, a retiring vicar and his wife, wanted the house to take on a new lease of life as a 'house for a large family' - complete with sink 'to wash the dog' and a porch 'to store the pram'.

The resultant conversion added a two-storey extension to the rear, a single storey to the side, a conservatory also to the rear and porch to the front. An additional circular window was added to the front, which provides a central focus in a blank wall and lights a dark corner.

The clients were keen to open up the house internally and this was done largely through reversing the original staircase and providing a large window over the stair. Extra routes through the house were created through the rear conservatory.

The house, which was small, damp, dark and pokey, has been transformed into a much larger and spacious dwelling.
